volume of The Adventures of Tintin series by Belgian cartoonist Hergé . Conceived
as a narrative exercise, Hergé wanted to see if he could maintain suspense throughout
sixty-two pages of story with no villains, locations, guns or danger, and with a clearly
deceptive solution. Consequently it is a story rich in comic setpieces, red herrings ,
mistaken interpretations, false tracks, pseudo-disappearances, and colourful
characters. This isone of the only Tintin books in which the characters remain at
Marlinspike and do not venture to another part of the world.

business jet on an Indonesian island. This album, first published in 1968, is
unusual in the Tintin series for its science fiction and paranormal influences.
The central mystery is essentially left unresolved.

 One of the last of Hergé’s adventures, several of the characters have
undergonenotable
changes: Tintin no longer enjoys adventuring and has abandoned his trademark plus
fours , Captain Haddock can no longer drink alcohol, and General Alcazar ‘s masculinity is ridiculed by
his new domineering wife.
An art craze sweeps over Europe – everyone is suddenly obsessed with Alph-Art,
or statues of letters. Even the Captain buys an H , but Tintin remains skeptical of
the movement. He looks into Alph-Art’s origins, and findshis usual mess of crooks and
swindlers (including Sakharine , Mr. Gibbons , Mr.Trickler , and Emir Ben Kalish Ezab )
using Alph-Art as a cover for forgeries. However, he is eventually caught, and Herge’s
last panel shows Tintin being marched away, to be covered with plastacine and sold
off as a statue.
